VVS Trail - Unsupported Bike Adeventure
The first edition of the Via del Volto Santo Trail organized by Garfagnana EPIC ASD and Lunigiana X Bike ASD is scheduled for Saturday 28 September 2019.
A mountain bike adventure that retraces the historic Via del Volto Santo, a variant of the Via Francigena that connects Pontremoli to Lucca, passing through Lunigiana and Garfagnana.
The rules are few: follow the path provided in the form of a GPS track, respect the highway code for non-off-road sections, respect nature and the places where you will dive.
The 210-kilometer track, 98% of which can be ridden on the bike, is a mix of dirt roads, secondary roads, mule tracks and single tracks that cross pristine places and ancient villages. The highest point is the summit of Monte Argegna, at an altitude of 1034 m. and the total ascent is about 7,500 meters.
No assistance is provided by the organization, it will be just you and your bicycle. There are no time limits to arrive at your destination and it will always be up to you to decide how to tackle the route, dividing it into stages, choosing where and when to eat and where and when to sleep.
It is not a race, it does not want to be a race against time but rather an opportunity to savor the beauty of the area, traveling slow, admiring the view and tasting the typical products, with the opportunity to make new friends and experiences taking home a beautiful piece of Tuscany.
